About Us

Moretonhampstead History Society was founded in 1965 and has since been involved with all aspects of Moretonhampstead's history. It hosts monthly lectures and field trips about and in the wider historical sphere, not just Moretonhampstead. The Society gathers archival material in original form and in copies, and publishes works on local history themes. It also carries out a number of heritage projects of which the Doccombe Parishcapes project is the late.

For more information please visit Moretonhampstead History Society and Moreton Archives.

Who is involved?

The project is part of the Moor Than Meets The Eye Project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

This project is anticipated to take about eighteen months to complete and will include an exhibition to be held at Green Hill Arts in Moretonhampstead. Many volunteers are involved with the project who regularly transcribe old documents, collate information, record local oral history and meet to present their findings.

Project Leader: Bill Hardiman, Chair of the Moretonham History Society
